The lawyers in our Health Law practice group have extensive experience advising and defending health practitioners in British Columbia and the Yukon.
Our lawyers deal with a wide range of health law related claims, including, in particular, those arising out of medical care and treatment. We have successfully investigated and defended claims on behalf of medical doctors, dentists and their staff in professional negligence and professional misconduct matters. Our lawyers have also been actively involved in advising clients on disciplinary matters, hospital privileges, credentialing, practice reviews, billing disputes, consent to treatment issues, human rights complaints, coroner investigations and inquests.
We have represented clients before various regulators and boards as well as tribunals, arbitration panels, commissions of inquiry, and the governing bodies of a range of institutions and professional disciplines including the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia.
Our lawyers have also represented health professions in applications for designation pursuant to the Health Professions Act, and have assisted health care clients with drafting policies and consent documents. We frequently lecture on informed consent, negligence, privacy, human rights and other health law related issues.
In addition to the various administrative bodies mentioned, our lawyers have appeared at all levels of the British Columbia judicial system on health law issues. Examples of the work done by our lawyers include:
- Defence of claims involving allegations of medical malpractice
- Defence of claims involving allegations by multiple plaintiffs of sexual misconduct
- Defence of claims involving allegations of defective medical products and the issue of causation
- Representation of physicians and other health care providers before disciplinary panels and the College more generally
- Counsel to physicians responding to human rights complaints
We have represented health care clients in the British Columbia and Yukon Courts.
