Mr. Wharton's practice encompasses
all aspects of maritime law as well as aspects of environmental
law relating to the marine environment. Mr. Wharton has been
lead counsel on several collision cases and major marine incidents
involving oil pollution. He has published a number of articles
in the area of maritime law and has lectured for the Law Society's
Continuing Legal Education Program and other educational institutes.
He is an Associate of the Ocean's Institute of Canada and is
on the executive of the Maritime Sub-Section of the Canadian
Bar Association (B.C.) Branch. He is also active in committee
work at the Canadian Maritime Law Association and is presently
working with the Government of Vietnam to bring their Marine
Transportation and Environmental Legislation up to International
standards. He is also currently assisting Vietnam to implement
Admiralty Rules for their Commercial Court. He was an invited
expert at the South China Sea Initiative, First Technical Working
Group, Meeting on Safety of Shipping, Navigation and Communication
in the South China Sea (October 1995 Jakarta, Indonesia) and
the Second TWG in Brunei October 1996. |
